Before you Post, Pray.

Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14

With everything that has been going on right now, my prayer has been that Christians now more than ever speak the truth in love. Truth needs to be spoken but it has to be done with love. I have watched as debates happen on social media ending in hurt and frustration, and for what? For the sake of being right?

As I was reading Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians, I was astonished at the verse above. Paul is known for being someone to speak frankly and clearly about the Gospel, no matter the cost. In the previous chapters, he talks about how he will give up everything for the sake of the Gospel. He walked into extreme hostility, even prison, to ensure that the Good News was spread throughout the world. And yet even though he was unashamed of his faith, he thought it imperative that the church know that this Truth has to be proclaimed with love.

In light of the polarized political climate that we live in, we have to constantly be checking our motivation for why we act. Are we acting out of love for the people in our circle or are we acting for the sake of being right or being louder than the voices of opposition? When we speak, we need to speak with humility and with conviction. When we act, we need to act consistently to the words we speak and charitably, understanding that not everyone thinks the same.

So before you post, pray. Before you act, get on your knees in surrender to God’s will rather than your way. Act with conviction, not because you think that what you have to say is of value but because you serve a God who does.
